It depends! If you are newer to ghost investigations, don't feel like you need the latest and greatest equipment. Equipment can be very expensive and there are a variety of tools that you will probably be able to use that you already own. A cell phone can be a very versatile tool since it takes pictures, records, and has the ability for ghost apps. However, it can interfere with equipment and create false positives in terms of EMF detectors. Go on a few investigations and see what you like. If you go to ghost conferences or public investigations, ask others if you want to see their equipment and maybe use it for a few minutes before you buy your own.
Yes! Lisa and I don't pretend like we never get scared. We go to a lot of interesting locations that have a bad history. The energy that still lingers can be negative. Investigating in a haunted location, no matter if it is daytime or nighttime, can be spooky. Unexpected things can occur, and you never know what is around the corner!
In our experience, orbs are usually NOT paranormal. Unfortunately, they can be explained by a lot of natural things including dust, insects, smoke, pollen, reflections off objects, etc. Even if the orbs are different colors in the photo, it does not mean it is a spirit. Again, it can be a reflection. If an orb is seen by the naked eye in real time, it may be a spirit, but try to debunk the situation first to make sure it isn't headlights or some other light source.
There are a lot of factors that go into a location being haunted. It is always good to remember that a place can be active one day and quiet the next. It can depend on the time of day and people involved. When looking at the hauntings that occur, try to determine if they can be explained naturally or debunked as not paranormal. Try to look into the history of the location on your own. Do your research. Do not assume that the stories and urban legends of the location are all true. Try to experience the place for yourself.
